NYSC debunks fake online redeployment notice

The National Youth Service Corps has dismissed a viral message claiming that it had opened a special redeployment window for corps members, describing the notice as false.

The scheme issued the clarification on Friday through its verified X handle, warning prospective and serving corps members, as well as the general public, not to be deceived by the misleading announcement.

The fake circular, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was addressed to parents and guardians. It alleged that a redeployment portal had been opened because of “issues of National Security, Health, and State of the Nation.”

It further urged “Corps Members with genuine grounds” to “apply on time to ensure their safety, proper placement, and timely completion of service.”

The fraudulent message also directed applicants seeking assistance to contact two phone numbers “ASAP,” claiming that “valid documents are required and all applications must follow NYSC guidelines.”

Reacting to the development, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters posted a disclaimer on its verified X account, @officialnyscng, prominently stamping the circulating notice with “FAKE NEWS” to alert the public.
The agency did not identify those responsible for creating or circulating the false information.

The incident adds to a series of attempts by fraudsters to exploit the redeployment process by deceiving and extorting unsuspecting corps members and their families.

The NYSC, under the leadership of its Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, has repeatedly maintained that deployment and redeployment requests are processed only through its official portal and designated offices.

It stressed that no individual or phone-based agent is authorised to handle such applications.

The scheme advised corps members and the public to verify all NYSC-related announcements through its official website and verified social media platforms before responding to any request or making payments.
