The National Youth Service Corps has issued a safety advisory to prospective members of the 2026 Batch A Stream I, warning them to avoid travelling at night while heading to their orientation camps.
The advisory was shared on Tuesday via the official X handle of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, as the scheme urged corps members to take personal safety seriously during the mobilisation exercise.
According to the NYSC, all journeys to orientation camps should be undertaken during daylight hours due to prevailing security concerns and road safety risks associated with night travel.
“Prospective corps members are strongly advised to travel only during the daytime and avoid night journeys, which expose them to higher security and safety threats,” the corps said.
The scheme also encouraged travellers to patronise only registered transport companies and approved motor parks, noting that this would help reduce exposure to unsafe travel conditions.
In addition, corps members were advised to share their live location with family members or trusted contacts throughout their journey to aid prompt response in case of emergencies.
“Corps members should ensure they share their live location with loved ones while travelling, as this could be crucial during unforeseen situations,” the advisory stated.
The NYSC further urged prospective corps members to speak out if drivers engage in speeding or reckless driving, warning that remaining silent in such situations could put lives at risk.
It also stressed the importance of keeping mobile phones fully charged and carrying power banks to maintain constant communication during transit.
The scheme advised that if a journey extends late into the night, corps members should stop and continue the trip the following day.
“No journey is worth risking one’s life. Corps members should suspend their trip and resume the next day if it gets late,” the NYSC said.
Reiterating its commitment to the welfare of corps members, the NYSC urged strict compliance with the guidelines as preparations for the 2026 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise continue.
