The Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, has received the green light from the National Universities Commission to commence seven additional undergraduate programmes.
This development brings the total number of approved degree courses at the institution to 85, achieved within five years of the university’s establishment.
The newly approved courses are: B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Public Relations, B.Sc. Advertising, B.Sc. Broadcasting, B.Sc. Journalism, B.Sc. Brewing Science, and B.Sc. Crop Science.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Temitope Akinbisoye, the NUC granted the approval following a successful resource verification exercise conducted in April 2025.
The approval was formally conveyed in a letter dated July 28, 2025, signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Abubakar Girei.
“These new programmes will commence from the 2025/2026 academic session,” Akinbisoye confirmed. “With this latest addition, the number of approved academic programmes in BOUESTI has risen to 85, a remarkable feat within just five years.”
Akinbisoye described the development as “a clear indication of the university’s rapid growth, commitment to quality education, and responsiveness to emerging global trends.”
Reacting to the milestone, the Vice-Chancellor of BOUESTI, Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa, expressed gratitude to the NUC for its continued confidence in the university.
“We deeply appreciate the support of the National Universities Commission in our academic journey,” Adeoluwa said. “This approval is a validation of our vision to be a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and community service.”
He also commended the contributions of the staff in the affected schools and departments, acknowledging their dedication during the resource assessment process.
“BOUESTI continues to grow in leaps and bounds,” the statement added. “We are committed to breaking new grounds and setting new benchmarks in Nigeria’s higher education sector.”
