The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended two individuals in connection with separate acts of vandalism at Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the first suspect, identified as 22-year-old Abubakar Muhammad, a student at the institution, was arrested on July 22 at about 11:40 a.m. for allegedly vandalizing eight ceiling fans donated by TETFund, which were installed in various classrooms.
“Abubakar confessed to taking the fans, stating that he sold the electric motors to one Yahya Isma’il, 20 years old, a scrap dealer nearby Dutse Central Mosque, near his house,” the statement revealed.
However, the alleged buyer, Yahya Isma’il, denied any involvement when interrogated by authorities.
The second suspect, Fahad Nasir, also 22, and a resident of Unguwa Dagari in Zai, was picked up the following day, July 23 at around 9:00 a.m., for the alleged removal of aluminum roofing sheets from classrooms within the same polytechnic.
The NSCDC confirmed that both individuals are currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.
The command also used the opportunity to warn against vandalism, emphasizing that offenders will be prosecuted accordingly.
