The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and Navy, has uncovered an illegal refinery and unauthorized fuel station at Y-Junction in Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement issued by the NSCDC’s Head of Media and Tactical Unit in Anambra, Okadigbo Edwin, the operation was carried out on Saturday afternoon following credible intelligence reports about unlawful petroleum activities in the area.
“One suspect was apprehended during the raid, while others managed to escape,” Edwin stated. “Our team seized various petroleum products, including 49 kegs of 25 litres each, suspected to contain adulterated diesel four 200-litre drums suspected to contain adulterated petrol and a pumping machine used in the illegal operations.”
He emphasized that the NSCDC, as the lead agency for protecting critical infrastructure, is resolute in its efforts to end illegal oil-related activities in Anambra State.
“Our joint operation is a clear signal to economic saboteurs. If they fail to desist, we will intensify our actions against them,” he warned. “We remain committed to prosecuting those involved and bringing fleeing accomplices to justice.”
Edwin also praised the synergy between security agencies in the state, noting that such collaboration is crucial in curbing crimes that endanger the economy and public safety.
“Our operations are guided by a clear mission—to safeguard critical national assets and stop the criminal exploitation of petroleum resources,” he said.
The arrested suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to track down others involved.
