Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Sunday held talks with a delegation of members of the United States Congress in Abuja as part of ongoing security engagements between both countries.
Ribadu disclosed the meeting in a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting that the visit was a continuation of security discussions earlier held in Washington, DC.
“Earlier today, I hosted a United States Congressional delegation on a fact-finding visit to Nigeria, following previous engagements in Washington on our shared security priorities,” the NSA said.
He explained that the discussions underscored the mutual commitment of Nigeria and the United States to strengthening collaboration on key security concerns.
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, also attended the meeting, a presence Ribadu said highlighted the importance both countries attach to the engagement.
“The participation of the US Ambassador further reflects the seriousness and value both nations place on this strategic dialogue,” he added.
According to Ribadu, the talks focused on critical issues including counter-terrorism efforts, regional peace and stability, and ways to deepen the long-standing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States.
“Our deliberations centred on counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening the strategic security partnership between our two countries,” he stated.
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the meeting, Ribadu said sustained engagement would enhance collaboration and trust.
“I am confident that this engagement will further deepen trust, promote cooperation, and reinforce our shared commitment to peace and security,” he said.
