Nollywood mourns as veteran actress Peju Ogunmola loses son

Veteran Nollywood actress, Peju Ogunmola, is mourning the loss of her son, Ayomikun Oluwanisola.

The heartbreaking news emerged on Tuesday, triggering an outpouring of condolences from fans and fellow actors.

The heartbreaking event took place while the 56-year-old actress was reportedly on a movie set.

Shina, her only child with renowned comic actor Sunday Omobolanle, famously known as Papi Luwe, had just completed his National Youth Service Corps programme, a significant achievement that had filled his mother with pride.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the family and the Yoruba movie industry. Colleagues, friends, and fans have poured in messages of condolence, describing the loss as a devastating blow to one of Nollywood’s most respected families.

Actress Biola Adebayo shared her grief on Instagram, describing the loss as unbearable, “This is a big loss. This is devastating and heartbreaking. This is tragic. May God almighty comfort Mummy Peju Ogunmola who just lost her only child.

“May God Almighty be with the family and loved ones at this tough time,” she wrote.

Actor Odunlade Adekola also paid tribute on Instagram, saying, “This is a big loss. God will console you ma …… and the whole family. E le yi po oo.”

Kunle Afod expressed his sorrow simply: “Hmmmm. My heart has been very heavy.”

Femi Adebayo described the tragedy as one too heavy for words, “Life has written a line too heavy for the stage… Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carries the weight no mother should bear.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you ma. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

Ibrahim Yekini, known popularly as Itele D Icon, prayed for divine comfort, stating, “A mother’s pain in losing her child is beyond words. Olorun ma fi ina omo jo gbogbo abiamo.”

Adedimeji Lateef added on Instagram, “Subuhanalah This is pain! My heart goes to the entire family in this dark hour. May the Almighty strengthen you during this tough time ma.”

Muyiwa Ademola also reflected on the profound loss:

“This is sad! It is such a sad news!! It broke the heart. No accurate words of condolences. The words are not coming. Not even sure if this is right or wrong. Just felt I should do something.

“The only one to console you is God! May the Almighty be with you, Aunty. This is too much to shoulder, too much to bear. It is well.”

Peju Ogunmola, married to veteran actor Sunday Omobolanle, also known as Papi Luwe or Aluwe, has appeared in countless Yoruba films over the decades.

Tragically, her son’s passing comes just weeks before his birthday on October 12.
