No govt can solve all problems – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that no administration, regardless of tenure, can completely resolve every challenge facing the country.

However, he maintained that the current government is committed to improving the lives of citizens through impactful projects.

Wike made this known on Monday during a media parley in Abuja, where he addressed concerns about the commissioning of projects and the broader scope of development initiatives within the FCT.

“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” the minister said.

“But government is solving problems that at least will help to improve the lives of people.”

Responding to inquiries about why certain projects are not being formally inaugurated, Wike clarified that only major projects with significant budgetary commitments are selected for commissioning.

“It’s not possible for us to commission every project,” he explained.

“We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects—ones where billions of naira have been spent—and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the media and encouraged reporters to visit project sites across the FCT with the support of relevant Mandate Secretaries, particularly in areas like education and social development.

“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance,” Wike stated.
