In a move aimed at fostering youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has provided grants of N531,000 each and business starter packs to 531 National Youth Service Corps members across the country.

The initiative was unveiled during a ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, where the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Group Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Roland Ewubare, emphasized the company’s dedication to national development through youth support.

“This is not just a donation,” Ojulari said. “It is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future and a reflection of NNPCL’s commitment to integrity and excellence.”

Addressing the beneficiaries, he praised their performance, noting that they were chosen from a highly competitive pool.

“You are exceptional candidates. We are proud to support your journey. Use these resources wisely—they are seeds for your growth and transformation,” he advised.

The empowerment programme is a joint effort between NNPCL Foundation, NYSC, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Kudimata Nigeria Ltd. It began with a focus on financial literacy and entrepreneurship training for corps members.

According to the Managing Director of NNPCL Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, more than 800,000 corps members have participated in the initiative since its launch in August 2023.

“We designed this programme to equip young Nigerians with business and financial management skills, including branding, funding, and project viability,” Arukwe said.

She added that the 531 beneficiaries scored at least 70% in a rigorous selection process to qualify. “Even those not selected today have gained valuable knowledge that positions them to access future grants and loans,” she said.

Founder of Kudimata Nigeria Ltd., Ms. Kathleen Erhimu, described the initiative as a “celebration of purpose and transformation,” noting that it would enhance financial independence for young Nigerians.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, applauded NNPCL’s comprehensive approach to youth support.

“Very few corporate partners provide both training and tangible support. This gesture will go a long way in helping these young people turn their business dreams into reality,” Nafiu said.

Also speaking at the event, the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Hussaini Magaji, represented by Hajiya Amina Fika, urged the beneficiaries to formally register their businesses.

“Take advantage of CAC’s online registration platforms to access funding and grow sustainable businesses,” he advised.

One of the beneficiaries, Ozigi Faith, expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity.

“This is our first step to financial freedom. Let us stay focused and make the most of it,” he said.
