The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has formally handed over certificates of return to chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors recently elected across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 local council development areas.

During the official ceremony, LASIEC Chairperson, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, extended appreciation to voters, stakeholders, and the over 45,000 ad-hoc personnel who contributed to the successful conduct of the elections.

She acknowledged minor delays in the accreditation process at the onset but lauded security operatives for their timely response in ensuring orderliness across polling units.

“The certificates of return signify the beginning of a new era in the political journey of the elected officials, who are expected to serve the people of Lagos State for the next four years,” Justice Okikiolu-Ighile stated, adding that the new administrations will assume office on July 26, 2025, following the conclusion of the current tenure.

In a post-event interview, Ajeromi Local Government Chairman-elect, Akindikpe Olaleko Olu, outlined his administration’s vision, promising to maintain continuity in governance while embracing accountability.

He revealed a new initiative called Ounje Ajegunle, aimed at curbing food insecurity by delivering subsidized food supplies to each ward on a weekly basis.

He also committed to continuing the local government’s annual security summit and pledged to complete road surfacing across the council area.

Meanwhile, Prince Lanre Sanusi, the incoming chairman of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, expressed concern over deteriorating road infrastructure in FESTAC Town.

He blamed the Federal Housing Authority for its inaction and pledged immediate rehabilitation efforts.

“We are excited about the outcome of this election. We have assured our people that we will continue to improve their lives. Road infrastructure, especially in FESTAC, will receive urgent attention,” Sanusi said.

The issuance of certificates of return not only signals the successful conclusion of the electoral process but also ushers in a new chapter of leadership focused on development and grassroots transformation throughout Lagos State.
