The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, with 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, also known as Colorado, valued at more than N10 million.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday in Kano by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.
According to him, Adamu-Umar, who hails from Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano highway.
The operation was carried out by NDLEA operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command.
He noted that the suspect was nabbed while transporting 19 parcels of the banned substance from Lagos to Kano.
“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under surveillance by the command for some time,” Muhammad-Maigatari revealed.
He further explained that the seizure represented a significant economic setback for the drug trafficking network by cutting off major revenue streams, disrupting their supply chain, and limiting funds for other criminal ventures.
“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with the trade in narcotics,” he added.
Muhammad-Maigatari assured that under the leadership of Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the Strategic Command will step up intelligence-driven operations and routine patrols to suppress drug trafficking across the state.
