The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted another shipment of female lipsticks laced with illicit drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
This was made known by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
According to Babafemi, the lipsticks, which were factory-sealed, were discovered to be ingeniously stuffed with illegal substances. This marks the second time within a week that the agency has uncovered such a tactic used to smuggle drugs through cosmetic products.
“Ladies beware!” Babafemi cautioned. “It appears that female lipstick is now being used as a medium for concealment and trafficking. This latest interception follows a similar discovery made just days ago at a courier facility in Lagos.”
He urged the public, especially women, to be extra vigilant when purchasing or receiving cosmetic items, particularly those from unverified sources or online vendors with questionable credibility.
“This is a new dimension that traffickers are exploring, and it calls for increased caution among consumers,” Babafemi added.
A video accompanying the alert was shared online, showing the seized items and the hidden drugs found inside.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking networks and protecting Nigerians from unknowingly becoming victims or conduits in the drug trade.
