Nations League: Scotland, Slovenia play out goalless draw

Scotland opened a new era under manager Sébastien Pocognoli with a goalless draw against Slovenia in their UEFA Nations League opener on Saturday.

After a lacklustre first half, Scotland improved significantly after the break and created several opportunities, but they were unable to find a breakthrough as Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak produced a series of impressive saves.

The result gives Scotland a point from their opening fixture as Pocognoli begins his tenure with the team following the departure of Steve Clarke.

Scotland had endured a difficult World Cup campaign, ending a 28-year wait to reach the tournament before suffering defeats against Brazil and Morocco in North America and failing to advance to the knockout stage.

Pocognoli was subsequently brought in to revitalise the side and becomes only the second foreign manager to take charge of Scotland after German Berti Vogts, who led the team between 2002 and 2004.

The new manager now has the task of implementing his ideas ahead of Euro 2028, which Scotland will co-host with England, the Republic of Ireland and Wales.
