Nations League: France thrash Belgium 4-1 in comeback win

France staged a dramatic late comeback on Monday, scoring four times in the final 13 minutes to defeat Belgium 4-1 in their UEFA Nations League clash at the Stade de France.

Belgium took the lead through Dodi Lukébakio in the 35th minute and held on to their advantage for more than 40 minutes as the hosts struggled to find a way through.

France eventually levelled in the 77th minute when substitute Désiré Doué turned sharply on the edge of the box before firing a low effort into the far corner.

The comeback gathered pace three minutes later as Michael Olise broke down the right and pulled the ball back for fellow substitute Rayan Cherki, who smashed his effort past goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.

Olise then got on the scoresheet himself in the 88th minute, holding off Nicolas Raskin before shooting across Vandevoordt to give France a 3-1 advantage.

The Bayern Munich forward completed his brace in stoppage time after Doué slipped him through, sealing a remarkable turnaround for France.

The victory moved France to 10 points from four matches and strengthened their position at the top of Group A, while giving Zinedine Zidane his first home victory as the team’s new manager.
