Nations League: Bosnia beat Romania 4-2 in Nations League

Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a commanding 4-2 victory over Romania on Monday to move top of League B Group 4 in the UEFA Nations League.

The visitors took control early despite the match being played behind closed doors following a UEFA sanction against Romania over fan behaviour during a 2024 fixture against Kosovo.

Armin Gigovic opened the scoring for Bosnia and Herzegovina when he headed in Esmir Bajraktarevic’s cross, before Tarik Muharemovic doubled the advantage with another header from Ivan Basic’s corner.

Romania responded through Daniel Birligea, who nodded Lisav Eissat’s delivery into the bottom corner to reduce the deficit.

Bosnia restored their two-goal lead before half-time after Romanian goalkeeper Ionut Radu spilled Kerim Alajbegovic’s effort, allowing Haris Tabakovic to pounce and score his sixth international goal.

The visitors extended their advantage shortly after the restart when Ermin Mahmic headed home another cross from Bajraktarevic to make it 4-1.

Romania pulled another goal back through substitute Alexandru Cicaldau, whose long-range effort slipped through Bosnia goalkeeper Martin Zlomislic’s hands, but the hosts could not complete a comeback.

The result leaves Romania bottom of League B Group 4, while Bosnia and Herzegovina moved into first place after recording their first Nations League away victory in eight years.
