The National Assembly of Nigeria has announced that both chambers of the legislature will resume plenary sessions on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
The notice was issued on Sunday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, who called on lawmakers to adjust their schedules ahead of the sitting.
“I am directed to inform Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members that the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene plenary at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026,” the statement said.
“All members are advised to take note and reschedule their engagements accordingly, as very important decisions are expected to be taken by each chamber.”
While the agenda for the sessions was not formally disclosed, the legislature had earlier adjourned plenary to allow Ministries, Departments and Agencies to complete the defence of their 2026 budget proposals.
There are also indications that lawmakers may consider issues arising from the Electoral Act Amendment Bill following the recent release of the 2027 general election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The timetable has generated debate among politicians and members of the public, particularly over concerns that some proposed election activities may coincide with the Ramadan fasting period in 2027.
Earlier, the House of Representatives Nigeria had notified members of a possible emergency sitting to deliberate on electoral matters linked to the timetable.
Observers say Tuesday’s resumption could therefore see discussions on the national budget, electoral reforms, and other pressing legislative priorities.
