The National Assembly has shifted the resumption of plenary sittings to March 5, 2026, postponing the earlier scheduled date of February 24.
The change was announced in a statement issued by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, who explained that lawmakers need more time to complete ongoing budget defence sessions.
According to him, committees of both chambers are still engaging ministries, departments and agencies over the details of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
“This is to notify Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members that plenary earlier fixed for February 24 has been postponed,” Ogunlana said.
He explained that the adjustment was necessary to allow committees to conclude their assignments before legislative sittings resume.
“The postponement will enable committees to round off the ongoing budget defence sessions and ensure proper consideration of the appropriation process,” he added.
The clerk stated that plenary in both the Senate and the House of Representatives will now reconvene on Thursday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m.
“Members are kindly requested to take note of the new date and time for resumption,” the statement noted.
The postponement comes as lawmakers intensify scrutiny of the 2026 budget proposal, with several agencies still appearing before committees to defend their allocations.
