NAF recovers more wreckage from Ondo aircraft crash site

The Nigerian Air Force has retrieved additional components from its ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as recovery operations continue at the site.

The Air Force disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

According to the NAF, specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau are working alongside its recovery team to search for and retrieve materials from beneath the water and other difficult-to-access areas.

The statement said the recovered components would be documented and preserved to support the ongoing investigation into the crash.

“Additional aircraft components have been recovered as efforts continue to locate and retrieve relevant materials for documentation and preservation in support of the ongoing investigation,” the Air Force stated.

The recovery exercise involves several technical operations, including underwater surveys, satellite-based search imagery, excavation of mud and the removal of excess water to reach areas of interest.

The NAF added that personnel were working round the clock to ensure that relevant materials were recovered and preserved for investigators.

The latest development comes amid continuing efforts by the multi-agency team to retrieve evidence from the crash site and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
