Musiala collapses during Bayern Munich pre-season clash with Leipzig

Jamal Musiala sparked concern during Bayern Munich’s pre-season meeting with RB Leipzig after appearing to lose consciousness late in the game.

The 23-year-old Germany international had just scored to help Bayern secure a 3-1 victory at the Allianz Arena when he suddenly appeared disoriented and struggled to remain on his feet.

New signing Ismael Saibari reacted quickly, catching Musiala before he could fall heavily to the ground.

Medical personnel then attended to the Bayern forward and escorted him from the pitch.

The incident came amid intense heat in Munich, adding to concerns over the player’s condition.

Musiala, who had entered the match as a second-half substitute, was eventually able to walk off with assistance from members of the medical team.

There was some relief when a member of Bayern’s medical staff gave a thumbs-up signal toward the dugout.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl subsequently offered a positive update on Musiala’s condition, saying, “The most important thing, he’s doing well!”

Saibari, who recently joined Bayern from PSV Eindhoven, had earlier provided the assist for Musiala’s goal before helping his teammate during the worrying incident.

However, Bayern also suffered another fitness concern during the encounter. Konrad Laimer was forced off after only 10 minutes after sustaining a foot injury.

Eberl said Laimer’s foot quickly became swollen and explained, “Konny took a hit relatively early on, and his foot swelled up pretty quickly as well. That’s why he was taken off as a precaution. It was already the case that he couldn’t run anymore; he had to be supported. That was visible. He wasn’t running smoothly at all. How long it will take, I really can’t say today.”

Bayern will hope both players avoid serious injuries as Vincent Kompany’s side prepare for their first competitive match of the new campaign against Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup next weekend.
