Mugabe’s son arrested over alleged assault in Zimbabwe

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former President Robert Mugabe, has been arrested alongside four other men over an alleged assault in Harare, the country’s capital.

The 29-year-old was among five suspects arrested on Tuesday, November 3, during an investigation into the alleged illegal importation of two luxury vehicles into Zimbabwe.

The New Zimbabwe reported the development.

The vehicles, a Lamborghini Urus and a Mercedes-Benz, were reportedly seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission over suspicions that they were brought into the country illegally.

The commission’s spokesperson, Simiso Mlevu, said one of its officers was attacked during the operation, prompting the police to be notified.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission today seized two high-end vehicles, that is the Lamborghini Urus and the Mercedes-Benz, on suspicion that these vehicles are in the country illegally,” Mlevu said.

According to Mlevu, records indicated that the Lamborghini entered Zimbabwe in June but was listed as having left the country on July 12.

The Mercedes-Benz was also reportedly recorded as departing for South Africa on October 10. Both vehicles were seized amid the investigation, according to Nehanda Radio.
