Mourinho reportedly linked to Celtic coaching job

Jose Mourinho could surprisingly be in the mix for the managerial role at Kelechi Iheanacho’s Celtic, which is expected to become vacant again this summer, according to SportsBoom.

While Ange Postecoglou, who previously led the Glasgow giants to five major trophies, is widely expected to return, our sources reveal that the Portuguese coach has also been mentioned by at least one influential figure behind the scenes as a potential successor to Martin O’Neil.

Former Leicester City manager O’Neil took over on an interim basis following Wilfried Nancy’s turbulent tenure, but he is set to step down at the end of the season.

If Postecoglou opts not to return to the 55-time Scottish champions, Mourinho is considered someone with the profile and personality capable of re-energising both the club and its fanbase, which has grown increasingly disengaged in recent months.

Mourinho, widely regarded as one of the finest coaching minds of his generation, having managed Porto, Chelsea, Internazionale, and Real Madrid, is currently at Benfica after leaving Fenerbahce.

However, his spell at the Estadio de Luiz has been far from smooth, with a faction of passionate supporters recently descending on the squad’s training ground to protest what they view as a string of disappointing results.

This has fueled speculation that Mourinho and the club may part ways by mutual consent before this summer’s World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
