Former France international, Paul Pogba, has parted ways with Monaco after the Ligue 1 club terminated his contract following just one season.
The 33-year-old had signed a two-year contract with Monaco in June 2025, which was originally due to run until June 2027.
However, the club announced that the agreement had been ended early after objectives agreed by both parties were only “partially achieved.”
Pogba featured just six times for Monaco last season, making only one start while coming off the bench in the other five appearances.
Reflecting on his brief spell with the club, Pogba said, “Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience.
“AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours.”
The 2018 World Cup winner joined Monaco after being cleared to return to professional football following an 18-month doping suspension.
Pogba had initially been handed a four-year ban while at Juventus but successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which reduced the suspension and allowed him to resume his career in March 2025.
Despite his departure from Monaco, the midfielder is reportedly attracting interest from clubs in Major League Soccer. He has previously been linked with DC United and Inter Miami.
However, a hamstring injury suffered during Monaco’s pre-season training camp in England last week could complicate his plans for a move.
Monaco chief executive, Thiago Scuro acknowledged that Pogba’s return had not gone as hoped but praised his contribution to the club’s ambitions.
Scuro said, “When [Pogba] joined, we explained that this was a major challenge, that was audacious and ambitious.
“While the outcome is not what we had hoped for, it should not overshadow the enthusiasm that surrounded his return to club football, nor the fact that Paul was able to return to the pitch and to professional football during this period.
“We wish Paul all the very best for the future.”
