Millions lost as fire razes Oyo residential building

A fire incident has razed a residential building at Block D5, Ifedapo Estate, Amuloko area of Ibadan, destroying properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday.

According to Akinwande, the fire occurred on Friday and completely consumed a six-room bungalow.

He explained that the agency received a distress call at exactly 2:53 p.m. from a resident identified as Odetunde, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters led by ACFS Amoo to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was a bungalow of six rooms engulfed by fire, and our officers swiftly got into action and prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings,” he said.

Akinwande noted that no lives were lost in the incident. He attributed the cause of the fire to a domestic gas cylinder that was left unattended and later exploded, causing the flames to spread across the building.

“Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire,” the chairman said.

He further advised residents to always contact the fire service promptly during emergencies and ensure that accurate location details are provided to enable quick response.
