Mikel Obi demands NFF board resignation if S’Eagles miss World Cup

Former Nigeria international, John Mikel Obi, has urged the disbandment of the Nigeria Football Federation if the Super Eagles fail to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

Mikel made the statement following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with South Africa in Bloemfontein, a result that leaves the Super Eagles’ World Cup ambitions in jeopardy.

With just two games remaining in the group stage, Nigeria trails leaders South Africa by six points.

The Eagles sit on 11 points, level with the Benin Republic, who have a game in hand.

Commenting on the NFF’s handling of the qualifying campaign, the former Chelsea midfielder told the Obi One Podcast that the football federation must be held accountable.

“If Nigeria doesn’t qualify for the World Cup, the entire NFF board has to go… it’s unacceptable.

“We didn’t qualify for Qatar, the last World Cup and now it looks like again we are not going to make it. Honestly, I have nothing to say about it,” Mikel said.
