Malami accepts EFCC invitation, vows to cooperate

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission invited him for questioning, stating that he is fully prepared to honour the summons.

Malami announced the development in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, describing the invitation as “a normal process in a system that upholds accountability.”

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC,” he wrote. “As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation.”

The former minister said he chose to publicly acknowledge the invitation in line with the principles he has always promoted.

According to him, openness in public service is a responsibility that leaders must uphold at all times.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” Malami added.

“I will continue to keep the public informed as events unfold.”

Malami served as Nigeria’s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. His eight-year tenure was marked by several high-stakes legal disputes, including asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption initiatives, and controversial government decisions that generated significant public debate.

In the later years of his service, he faced scrutiny over issues related to asset declarations, contract processes, and recovered funds — allegations he consistently denied.
