Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, have rejected allegations by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, that there is a plan to remove the traditional ruler from his throne.
Fayose had alleged in a post on his social media platform that the Oyo State Government was preparing to initiate the monarch’s removal, citing his absence at a recent coronation ceremony of some Ibadan high chiefs as part of the grounds.
However, both the state government and the palace described the claim as false and misleading.
Reacting to the allegation, a media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, said there was no disagreement between Governor Makinde and Oba Ladoja that could justify such speculation.
“I am not aware of any issue between the governor and the Olubadan that could lead to such action. The claim appears to be nothing more than a rumour,” Oloko said.
Also speaking, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, dismissed the allegation, stressing that the government had never considered any move to dethrone the monarch.
“At no time has the Oyo State Government discussed or contemplated removing the Olubadan. There is no basis for such a claim,” Oyelade said.
He further suggested that the allegation was politically motivated, adding that misinformation could undermine public trust in democratic processes.
“Such statements are examples of reckless political propaganda that do not serve the interest of democracy,” he added.
