The Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde will embark on a one-month leave, beginning Thursday, August 29, 2025, and lasting until Monday, September 29, 2025.

The governor’s formal notice was read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, in line with Section 190(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, which requires state governors to notify the legislature before proceeding on vacation.

In the letter, Governor Makinde informed the Assembly of his decision and officially delegated state functions to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will serve as Acting Governor throughout the period.

Acknowledging the letter, Speaker Ogundoyin assured that the legislature is fully behind the smooth handover of duties.

With this handover, Barrister Lawal will oversee the state’s affairs from August 29 until Governor Makinde resumes office on September 29.

The Assembly adjourned proceedings and is scheduled to reconvene on September 16, 2025.
