The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that nearly all major projects in the territory are about 98% completion.
Wike made the claim during a routine inspection of some key infrastructure projects.
The former governor of Rivers State stressed that projects, pivotal for enhancing the city’s transport network, are poised for inauguration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in celebration of his first year in office.
During his tour, Wike inspected numerous significant developments, including the construction of the Southern Parkway from the Christian Centre to Ring Road 1, the development of the Outer Southern Expressway from Villa Roundabout to Ring Road 1, and the construction of the Vice President’s official residence, according to the Independent.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that most projects are at a 98% completion rate.
“We’ve kept our promise to the residents of Abuja,” said Wike. “These projects not only fulfill a commitment but also showcase the potential for improved urban mobility and infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Additional projects close to completion include the B6 and B12 Circle Road, also known as Independence and Constitution Avenue, and the full scope development of the Arterial Road N20 from Northern Parkway (Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Expressway) to Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohammed Expressway).
The Wuye Interchange and Guzape Lot II District Infrastructure are also on track for completion and are expected to be operational by May.
“The President has given us tremendous support, and we are committed to ensuring that these projects are completed on time to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity within the city,” Wike added.
Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, echoed the Minister’s statements during the tour, emphasizing the expected benefits in reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation efficiency in Abuja.
The contractors involved reassured that they are dedicated to meeting the May deadline, aligning with the government’s objectives and providing necessary infrastructure improvements to support the city’s growth and development.
