Liverpool are growing increasingly optimistic about landing Newcastle United forward, Alexander Isak, before the close of the transfer window, with a fresh, record-breaking offer set to be submitted.
The 25-year-old has made his position clear by refusing to train or feature for the Magpies, as he looks to engineer a dream move to Anfield. In the meantime, Newcastle are already assessing possible replacements.
Earlier this week, Isak released a statement reiterating his desire to depart St James’ Park while accusing the club of making “broken promises.”
In response, head coach Eddie Howe addressed the matter in Friday’s press conference, describing the saga as a “sad moment.”
TEAMtalk sources have again confirmed Liverpool’s readiness to table an improved £130 million proposal for the Swedish international, echoing earlier reports from August 21.
Despite this, Newcastle are standing firm in their insistence that Isak is not on the market. Still, tensions continue to rise on Tyneside, particularly with contract extension talks having stalled.
With Isak now officially on strike, refusing both training and match involvement, Howe faces a delicate task of trying to bring him back into the fold.
Yet, given the striker’s current position, a quick resolution appears unlikely.
