Olympique de Marseille got their Ligue 1 campaign up and running in emphatic fashion with a 5-2 victory over Paris FC at the Stade Vélodrome, thanks in large part to a brilliant performance from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
After falling short on the opening weekend and dealing with off-field uncertainty around Adrien Rabiot, Marseille needed a response—and they delivered.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when Mason Greenwood coolly converted from the spot. Moments later, Greenwood turned provider, feeding Aubameyang for Marseille’s second.
The returning Gabonese forward showed his sharp instincts, bagging a brace that underlined his importance to the squad.
Paris FC threatened to spoil the night, however. Ilan Kebbal reduced the deficit midway through the first half, and Moses Simon struck an equalizer shortly after the interval, making it 2-2 and unsettling the home crowd.
Just as the pressure began to mount, Aubameyang restored calm. Pouncing on a mistake from the goalkeeper in the 73rd minute, he slotted home his second of the night to swing momentum firmly back in Marseille’s favor.
From there, the floodgates opened. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg blasted in a fourth before Robinio Vaz added a fifth in stoppage time, assisted again by Greenwood, who had earlier missed a second penalty.
The result not only hands Marseille their first three points of the season but also eases the early pressure on the squad. Aubameyang’s clinical finishing and leadership proved decisive, giving fans renewed optimism. Meanwhile, Paris FC’s struggles continue, as they remain winless after two matches.
