LAWMA intensifies sanitation enforcement along Lagos-Badagry expressway corridor

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has called on residents, traders, and transport operators along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to dispose of their refuse through officially assigned Private Sector Participant operators, as the agency intensifies sanitation enforcement across the corridor.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Government on Monday and shared through its official communication platforms.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, gave the warning during an inspection of major waste blackspots over the weekend.

He explained that the clean-up drive forms part of the state’s broader effort to enforce environmental regulations and promote sustainable waste management.

According to him, the authority has already begun large-scale waste evacuation at Alaba Rago, deploying heavy machinery and operational teams to clear long-standing illegal dumpsites.

“We have mobilised trucks, loaders, and field teams to remove accumulated refuse at Alaba Rago and other locations,” Gbadegesin said.

“Residents and businesses must ensure that their waste is handed over only to assigned PSP operators in line with environmental laws.”

The monitoring exercise covered several locations along the expressway, including Orile, Doyin, Alaba Rago, Agric, Barracks at Iyana-Iba, and Agbara.

LAWMA noted that similar operations would continue across other identified waste hotspots in the area.
