A tragic accident at Mosalasi Roundabout along New Ipaja Road in Lagos on Sunday claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified female pedestrian after a black Toyota Tundra rammed into her on the walkway.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident and disclosed that the fatal crash was caused by excessive speeding.

The vehicle, bearing registration number FST 222 HV, veered off the road, struck the woman, and crashed into a nearby livestock premises, causing additional damage.

According to a statement issued by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, “Preliminary investigations show the driver was travelling at an extremely high speed when he lost control, mounted the pedestrian walkway, and hit the woman, who died instantly from the impact.”

The impact did not end there, as the vehicle continued moving, destroying the perimeter fence of a livestock business and a nearby advertising billboard.

Taofiq said the driver attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by LASTMA officials. “Thanks to the prompt response of our officers, the driver was restrained and handed over to officers from the Gowon Estate Police Command, who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash.”
