A Magistrate’s Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of Mr. Olawale Ogunbadejo in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for illegally dumping refuse on a public road in the Alapere area of Ketu.

The court ruled that the suspect remain in custody until June 26, pending further proceedings.

The development was made public by Ridwan Ajetunmobi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Lagos State Governor, via his official X handle.

Ogunbadejo, who resides at No. 25 Ajiboye Street, Alapere, was reportedly caught in the act during a coordinated enforcement operation by the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, acting on credible intelligence from community members.

MetroPunch had reported that Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest and emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated under the state’s environmental protection laws.

“Mr. Ogunbadejo was caught red-handed dumping refuse indiscriminately. This is not just a violation of our laws — it’s an attack on our collective wellbeing,” Wahab said in a statement. “We are sending a clear message: there will be no room for environmental recklessness in Lagos.”

Wahab also lauded residents for their vigilance and urged continued public support in maintaining a clean and livable city.

“Our success in keeping Lagos clean hinges on the active participation of citizens. We must all work together to build a sustainable and healthy environment for future generations,” he said.

The Lagos State Government, through its #CleanerLagos initiative, reiterated its commitment to environmental protection via strict enforcement, public sensitization, and community partnerships.

Authorities say Ogunbadejo will face charges under existing environmental sanitation laws, with the case serving as a warning to potential violators across the state.
