The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commended the conduct of Saturday’s local government election in Lagos State, describing the process as peaceful and devoid of major incidents.
Speaking while monitoring polling units across the state, the Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC, ACE I Ahmed Ghali, said the exercise had proceeded smoothly with no reports of electoral malpractice or violence.
“Our operatives have been deployed to different parts of the state, and from the information gathered, the atmosphere has been calm and orderly,” Ghali said.
“We have not received any incident reports so far, and that’s very encouraging.”
Ghali acknowledged some delays in the distribution of election materials in a few locations but noted that such occurrences were minimal and understandable.
“There were minor delays in some areas due to logistical challenges in the movement of materials, but that is expected in an election of this magnitude,” he added.
The EFCC director also praised the conduct of voters, electoral officials, and security agencies, describing their behavior as professional and disciplined.
“Everyone is conducting themselves responsibly,” he noted. “Voters are casting their ballots peacefully, electoral officials are doing their job professionally, and security agents are alert and maintaining order.”
Ghali assured that the anti-graft agency would continue to observe the electoral process until the conclusion of voting, stressing EFCC’s commitment to promoting transparent and credible elections.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission earlier confirmed that some polling units in Abule Egba and Meiran experienced delays due to logistical issues, while other stakeholders raised concerns about low voter turnout in various areas.
