The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to environmental enforcement with the arrest of a man, Mr. Ogunbadejo Olawale, for illegally dumping refuse in the Alapere area of Ketu.

The suspect, a resident of No. 25 Ajiboye Street, Alapere, was apprehended during a joint operation by officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, following credible intelligence provided by concerned residents.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He said the suspect was caught in the act, disposing waste indiscriminately in public spaces — a direct violation of the state’s environmental laws.

“We will not tolerate acts that sabotage our efforts to keep Lagos clean and habitable,” Wahab stated. “The arrest of Mr. Ogunbadejo is a strong message to others who think they can pollute the environment without consequence. We are serious about enforcement, and violators will be prosecuted accordingly.”

He further emphasized the importance of public support in achieving a cleaner Lagos.

“Dear Lagosians, your support and vigilance are the backbone of our success so far. Together, we are building a city that will not only be resilient and sustainable but one that our children will be proud to inherit,” Wahab added.

According to the ministry, the suspect will be prosecuted in line with existing environmental regulations in the state.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the environment through consistent enforcement actions, public engagement, and sustained advocacy under its #CleanerLagos initiative.
