The Lagos State Government has announced a two-day traffic diversion on Osborne Road in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, to allow the connection of newly built drains to the main underground channel in the area.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the diversion will run from 10 p.m. on Friday, August 15, to midnight on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
According to him, the construction work will involve cutting a section of Osborne Road before Foreshore Towers to install a cross culvert linking the drainage system on Modupe Alakija Crescent to the underground channel along the road median.
“This project is part of ongoing efforts to improve the drainage network on Modupe Alakija Crescent and its surroundings. The connection to the underground channel is crucial to prevent flooding in the area,” Osiyemi said.
He noted that a counterflow arrangement would be implemented along Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road for about 100 metres, from Modupe Alakija Crescent to the Alfred Rewane junction, to manage traffic during the works.
Explaining the temporary traffic plan, the commissioner said, “Motorists from Alfred Rewane Road heading towards Osborne Road will use a contraflow lane before reconnecting to their normal route. Those inbound Alfred Rewane Road from Osborne Road will be restricted to one lane.”
Osiyemi also advised motorists to use alternative routes to ease congestion.
“Drivers heading from Osborne Road to Alfred Rewane Road can take Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue to connect Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road. Similarly, motorists coming from Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road can use these same roads in reverse,” he said.
The commissioner assured that normal traffic flow would resume by Monday, August 18, and confirmed that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to guide motorists and minimise delays.
“We appeal for the understanding and cooperation of residents and road users as we work to deliver better drainage infrastructure for the area,” Osiyemi added.
