The Lagos State Government has taken significant steps to strengthen grassroots security with the recruitment of more than 1,000 new officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
This development is part of a broader initiative aimed at modernizing community policing and boosting security presence in every local ward.
Speaking at the 2025 ministerial press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, revealed this milestone.
He noted that strategic reforms have been implemented to reposition the LNSC as a more agile and proactive force.
“In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers.
“This is more than just a number, it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order,” Oyerinde stated.
In addition to expanding its personnel, the state has introduced several specialised units within the corps.
These include Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics, and Crowd Control, all aimed at addressing the complexity of evolving security challenges.
To further enhance operational efficiency, the government has also equipped the LNSC with a diverse fleet of mobility tools, including patrol bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and vehicles, facilitating quicker response times across the metropolis.
