The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that schools nationwide would be closed on November 24, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry described the viral social media report as false and misleading, stressing that it did not come from the Federal Government, the ministry, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.
The disclaimer, issued by spokesperson Folasade Boriowo, advised the public to depend solely on verified information from authorised channels.
“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared. Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation,” the statement read.
The ministry added that only statements from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, state authorities, and approved security agencies should be regarded as legitimate.
This clarification comes on the heels of the Federal Government’s decision on Friday to shut 41 federal secondary schools located in high-risk regions, following recent abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Several states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, have also closed schools due to escalating insecurity, while Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has ordered the immediate deboarding of students in all public and private secondary schools.
