The Kano State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of three local government chairmen by another three months over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.
The affected council chairmen are Bello Abdullahi Gadanya of Bagwai, Dr Alhassan Salisu of Bebeji and Abubakar Mustapha of Rogo.
The Assembly also approved an additional three-month extension for the ad hoc committee investigating allegations levelled against the officials.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Shawai.
According to the statement, the committee was initially given three months to investigate the allegations and submit its findings to the House.
It explained that the extension became necessary following the expiration of the initial period, adding that the committee required more time to examine the petitions and complete its assignment.
“With the expiration of the initial period, the House has now extended both the suspension of the chairmen and the mandate of the committee by another three months,” the statement said.
It added that the extension would enable the committee to thoroughly investigate the petitions and present its report to the Assembly within the new timeframe.
The three chairmen were initially suspended following allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office and other acts of misconduct.
The Assembly is yet to announce the outcome of the investigation.
