Kamaru Usman has publicly apologised after mistakenly sharing a private FaceTime conversation with British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, admitting the clip should never have been made public.
The former UFC welterweight champion explained that the incident happened while he was filming content throughout the day in preparation for The AKO Show.
According to Usman, he was unaware that a recording was still running when the call with Joshua took place.
“I was on camera for most of the day getting things ready for the show,” Usman said in a statement. “Unfortunately, I didn’t realise the recording was still on during a private conversation. That is completely on me.”
The video, which briefly circulated online before being taken down, showed Joshua speaking from a hospital bed following a car crash that reportedly claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
The sensitive nature of the conversation sparked criticism and concern from fans.
Reacting to the backlash, Usman described the situation as “heartbreaking” and took full responsibility for the mistake.
“I failed to properly review the footage before it went out,” he admitted. “That conversation was private and should have stayed that way. I accept full responsibility.”
Usman stressed that there was no malicious intent behind the post, emphasizing the closeness of his relationship with the former two-time heavyweight champion.
“I would never intentionally share a moment like that involving a friend or a brother,” he said. “Anthony has my deepest respect, and I sincerely apologise to him and everyone affected by this.”
The clip has since been deleted, with Usman reiterating his regret and apologizing for what he called a serious lapse in judgment.
