Israel has begun freeing Palestinian prisoners following the return of the last surviving Israeli hostages from Gaza, according to television footage.
On Monday, the first buses carrying released detainees departed Ofer Prison in the West Bank, near Jerusalem, en route to Ramallah.
As part of the ceasefire deal with Hamas, Israel is expected to free roughly 1,700 Palestinians detained since October 7, 2023, along with around 250 inmates, including some serving life sentences.
Television coverage showed Israeli security forces using tear gas shortly before the buses left, dispersing people gathered near the prison, among them journalists.
The Israeli military recently cautioned families of the released prisoners that public celebrations are strictly prohibited.
Earlier in the day, Hamas handed over the final 20 surviving hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross. The men returned to Israel after 738 days in captivity.
They were part of the 251 individuals seized by Hamas during the October 7, 2023 attacks, which left about 1,200 people dead in Israel and sparked the Gaza war.
