Inter beat Lazio 2-0 to go top of Serie A

Captain Lautaro Martínez set the tone early as Inter Milan continued their impressive Serie A form with a commanding 2-0 victory over Lazio on Sunday.

Ange-Yoan Bonny sealed the points with a composed finish midway through the second half, ensuring Cristian Chivu’s men head into the international break top of the table, ahead of Roma on goal difference, after securing their third consecutive league win.

Inter struck within just three minutes when Alessandro Bastoni dispossessed Gustav Isaksen on the left flank and slipped the ball to Martínez, who rifled a stunning effort into the top corner beyond a helpless Ivan Provedel.

The visitors almost doubled their advantage in the 25th minute, with Nicolò Barella picking out Petar Sucic at the back post, only for the midfielder’s low volley to flash narrowly wide.

Inter kept up the pressure after the break, and their persistence paid off with a flowing team move. Carlos Augusto released Martínez down the left, the captain linked up neatly with Federico Dimarco, whose pinpoint low cross found Bonny sliding in at the far post to make it 2-0.

There was brief disappointment for Inter when Piotr Zielinski’s thunderous strike was disallowed by VAR for a handball in the buildup, but the Nerazzurri remained in control.

Pedro came close to pulling one back for Lazio, while substitute Oliver Provstgaard’s header struck the underside of the bar before Yann Sommer gathered it safely on the line.

Sommer then denied Luca Pellegrini late on as Inter comfortably saw out another statement win, reinforcing their early-season dominance under Chivu.
