An Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger earlier accused of unruly behaviour and assault on board an Ibom Air flight.
According to The PUNCH, the decision came on Wednesday after the police withdrew the five-count charge against her, following the airline’s decision to drop its complaint.
Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case after the prosecution, led by Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court of new developments. “My Lord, there have been changes in the matter, and the complainant has decided to withdraw. We therefore apply for the withdrawal of the case,” Adeitan told the court.
The development followed consultations between the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), and key stakeholders in the aviation sector. Keyamo said the resolution was influenced by appeals from respected individuals and the remorse shown by those involved.
“Ibom Air has agreed to withdraw its complaint against Ms. Emmanson after careful review of the incident and consideration of public appeals,” the minister said.
Emmanson was first arraigned on Monday and granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum but had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.
