Manchester City midfielder, Rodri, has downplayed expectations that his return would instantly change the club’s fortunes, admitting he does not have the game-defining qualities of Lionel Messi.
The Spaniard, who featured in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, insisted that City’s struggles cannot be solved by one player alone.
“I’m not Messi. I’m not going to come back and make the team win and win,” Rodri told reporters after the game.
The loss at the Amex Stadium means Pep Guardiola’s men have picked up just three points from their opening three Premier League fixtures, raising questions about their early-season form.
Rodri, however, stressed the importance of teamwork in turning things around.
“This is a collective; when we won in the past, I needed all my teammates,” he explained. “For sure I have to recover and find my best level. It’s not because I’m back we’re going to win. It’s a collective sport.”
