I’m contesting 2027 election as number one – Peter Obi

Peter Obi has restated his intention to contest for the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket in 2027, firmly rejecting any suggestion that he might settle for a vice-presidential role.

Speaking at a campaign event for ADC candidates in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Obi told supporters that his ambition is clear and unchanged. “I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one,” he declared. “I am not running as anybody’s deputy.”

He urged residents and party loyalists to back the ADC candidate in the AMAC election, saying their support would strengthen his wider political goals. “This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me,” he said. “Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey.”

Obi added that his presence in the race is as a leading contender. “I assure you, when I come back, you will see that we are fully prepared for what lies ahead,” he told the crowd.

His supporters, particularly from the Obidient Movement, have continued pushing the ADC to make him its presidential flagbearer, insisting “the 2027 ticket should belong to Obi alone.”

Despite this, the ADC’s presidential field is expected to be competitive, as other prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi are also said to be eyeing the party’s ticket.
