The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the decoration of outstanding police officers recently approved for accelerated promotion by the Police Service Commission.

The decoration ceremony will take place today, Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the promotions are part of the IGP’s broader commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force by fostering motivation, meritocracy, and professionalism among officers.

“This move is not just about conferring new ranks,” the statement read. “It is a national salute to officers whose conduct, courage, and character exemplify true service to the nation.”

Among the officers to be decorated are CSP Shaba Aliyu, named Police Officer of the Year 2023, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and SP Sentome Obi, the Police Officer of the Year 2024, who is now a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). Their promotions take effect from December 31, 2023, and December 31, 2024, respectively.

In line with an earlier public declaration made in July 2025, the police had promised accelerated promotion for officers who won awards in two consecutive years or received the IGP’s commendation more than once. This pledge, according to the statement, was driven by the Force’s renewed focus on celebrating professionalism and integrity.

“Institutional reform starts with rewarding excellence,” the Force PRO emphasized. “These officers went above and beyond their call of duty. They chose integrity over compromise, and for that, they are being honoured.”

To highlight the importance of this recognition, special logistics have been arranged. The IGP has ordered the use of the police jet to convey the awardees to Abuja for their official decoration. Additionally, their photographs have been displayed at the main entrance of the Force Headquarters, with similar displays directed at Zonal and State Command offices across the country.

“This is how trust is built – from within,” Adejobi stated. “We are creating a culture where excellence is not the exception, but the standard.”

The police spokesperson encouraged officers nationwide to stay committed to professionalism and integrity, assuring them that their sacrifices would be acknowledged.

“To all our officers across the federation, this is a strong reminder: the job is not thankless,” he said. “Your efforts are seen. Your excellence will be celebrated.”
