The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has revealed that it tracked 35 Federal Government projects valued at N4.61 billion across Zamfara under its ongoing project monitoring initiative.
Speaking during a press briefing in Gusau on Saturday, the team leader of the exercise, Dr Murtala Bankano, said the tracking was aimed at ensuring accountability and value for money in government-funded projects.
According to him, “The goal is to make sure that public funds are used for the purposes they were allocated. We are here to ensure that every project meets the expected standard.”
Bankano explained that the Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative, introduced by the commission in partnership with the Budget Office of the Federation, helps monitor projects across the country.
The initiative also involves the National Institute for Quantity Surveyors, media representatives, and other stakeholders.
He said the current tracking phase in Zamfara covered six major sectors education, health, water resources, power, empowerment, and agriculture.
Bankano noted that several of the projects were at varying levels of completion, urging contractors handling them to return to site where lapses had been identified.
“We are awaiting the NIQS report to give precise assessments, but any contractor with unresolved issues must go back to site immediately,” he stated.
He reaffirmed that the commission’s target is to ensure that all constituency and executive projects are executed effectively and meet approved specifications.
