Nigerian chef and culinary personality, Hilda Bassey Effiong, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has been officially honored with her second Guinness World Record plaque — this time for preparing the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
Guinness World Records confirmed that Baci cooked 8,780kg (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a large cookout held in Lagos in September. The feat has now been recognised as the largest ever recorded.
This achievement comes a little over a year after she gained global attention for her first Guinness World Record — a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon completed in May 2023.
With both records, Baci becomes the first Nigerian chef to hold two Guinness World Record titles.
Sharing photos of her new plaque on Instagram, Baci described the recognition as a powerful symbol of perseverance, national pride, and divine favor.
“Our plaques are finally here! Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history,” she wrote.
“Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria.”
She noted that the recent feat was achieved in partnership with Gino, a popular food brand, saying the project went beyond cooking to tell a story that connected millions.
“Together with Gino, we created something bigger than ourselves — a story that reached over five billion people. We reminded the world what’s possible when passion meets purpose,” she added.
In her Instagram caption, Baci also referenced the Bible verse Isaiah 61:7, reflecting on her journey, “Instead of shame you will receive a double portion… And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
The Lagos event reportedly attracted more than 20,000 guests, including food lovers, celebrities, and influencers. Every portion of the record-breaking jollof rice was distributed to attendees and charity groups in line with Guinness verification guidelines.
Baci’s accomplishment has continued to spark celebrations across social media, where many Nigerians describe her as a symbol of consistency, creativity, and resilience.
