Gunmen on Tuesday night attacked Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing two residents and leaving two others injured in a shooting that lasted several minutes.
Sources from the community said the attackers stormed the village at about 10:30pm, firing sporadically before escaping into nearby bushes.
The injured victims were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tengwong, said the community was thrown into panic following the sudden invasion.
“Gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10pm on Tuesday night and opened fire sporadically. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” Tengwong said.
He described the attack as another disturbing incident in the recurring wave of insecurity affecting parts of Riyom and other communities in Plateau State, calling on security agencies to strengthen patrols and ensure the perpetrators are arrested.
Meanwhile, attempts to get a reaction from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
