Atletico Madrid’s £21.5 million bid for Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has been turned down by Fulham, who are adamant that the midfielder is not for sale.

The Spanish giants made a formal offer for the Nigerian international, but Fulham were quick to reject the approach, insisting the 29-year-old remains central to manager Marco Silva’s project.

HammyEnd, a trusted Fulham-focused outlet, reported that the Cottagers had no intention of entertaining the offer.

“Fulham have turned down Atletico Madrid’s £21.5m offer for Nigerian international Alex Iwobi. The Whites view their 29-year-old midfielder as a key part of Marco Silva’s plans and are not considering selling him at this point,” the site confirmed.

The initial story broke via Africa Foot, revealing Atletico’s intent to sign Iwobi despite his long-term contract at Craven Cottage, which still has three years left.

The La Liga club, eager to shake up their squad following a frustrating third-place finish last season, see Iwobi as a major midfield reinforcement.

Reports suggested the Rojiblancos proposed a four-year deal worth around £115,000 per week to lure him away from west London.

Since his £22 million switch from Everton in September 2023, Iwobi has established himself as a key figure at Fulham.

He has earned plaudits for his work ethic and adaptability, contributing nine goals and six assists in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign alone.

In total, he has netted 15 goals and delivered eight assists in 77 appearances for the club.

Iwobi, who played a vital role in Nigeria’s run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, has earned 80 caps and scored 10 goals for the Super Eagles.
